The WGU Prison Education Program (PEP) is an initiative designed to offer incarcerated individuals the opportunity to earn a degree, such as a Bachelor of Science in Business - Management. Initially set to launch within the Maine Department of Corrections in May 2025 the program anticipates expansion in size and scope based on its success. The program aligns with the recent reinstatement of Pell Grants for incarcerated students and seeks to address challenges such as limited internet access and restrictive learning environments. Through this initiative, WGU aims to reduce recidivism and enhance post-release employment opportunities, ultimately contributing to the broader goal of educational equity.​
